My Unfair Career Superpower

Hi, let me tell you a story.

In January of 2019, my brother and I were standing in our bathroom, brushing our teeth. With a look of perplexity on his face, he spoke through his toothbrush and a mouthful of toothpaste.

“Are you serious?”

He was asking me about my intentions to move to Mexico City the following month – to  live off my savings and build up my YouTube channel.

And I was serious. I had no backup plan. And there was nothing else I wanted to do more than throw everything I had at this dream.

Within a month of that conversation, I was alone in Mexico City, with two bags and a mission. It was the most exhilarating experience of my life up to that point.

And then, after 4 years of non-stop effort, something really weird happened in my life: 6 of my videos went viral all at once, and my YouTube channel grew to 165,000 subscribers in that month alone.

It didn’t make any sense in my brain that I was suddenly reaching millions of pairs of eyeballs on a monthly basis. I had accidentally stumbled upon something huge.

Learning certain skills unlocks certain doors.

And getting good at making videos unlocks a GIANT door: the door to reaching people through the internet.

And that’s a door so big, in fact, that my life would never be the same again.

Creating videos that move people is my unfair career superpower

And everything (including this newsletter) comes back to the moment I unlocked that superpower

Today, I’m opening my editing & animation master course Frame by Frame, for the second time.

We launched the course this Spring and had amazing results from our students:

I want Frame by Frame to be the ultimate resource for anyone looking to level up (or start the journey) as a professional editor or animator.

  • The Shooting Course: For the first time ever, I’m going to be teaching my full process for filming video content: the lenses, cameras, settings, and thought processes I use to CAPTURE the content that eventually makes its way to YouTube. This will teach you what you need to create original video material to edit and animate.

  • Expanded Editing Materials: We’ve re-worked the Editing Course and added a brand-new expanded Editing 101 series, focused on hands-on application of the technical elements of editing (with a focus on going from complete beginner to intermediate level in a single project, where the files are provided to you).

  • Hands-On Assignments (files provided): The Editing & Animation Courses include example projects (walked through step-by-step) you can complete early on in the course to start to practice and master your skills. Both courses’ new hands-on exercises will provide you with footage/files for you to download, so you don’t have to shoot your own material to get started practicing.

The course is now so expansive that our course outline is a learning resource in itself:

I want to give you access to the career roadmap I was missing when I started out: that I had to spend years working to develop. But you can skip all the mistakes and dead-ends I had to go down to arrive here.

Frame by Frame will shortcut your process so you can start your path where I am today. And you can do it with the single most motivated group of peers you could find.

If you want to learn, learn with us together – as a community – instead of doing it alone (like I did when I made the move away from everyone to Mexico City, spending every day alone, wondering if my creative dream could ever become a creative career.)

If you’d like to start your journey (or level up on your path) to becoming a truly world-class editor, animator, or video creator online, this is the single best resource I can recommend. And it’s only getting better from here.
